CYLINDERS

Besides your engines internal reciprocating mass, your cylinders are where heat
is converted into kinetic energy…where you get your engine certified horsepower output, the heart of your engine.

If your cylinders are first run, they are rebuildable. If there is no history on your cylinders we will research them. We rebuild 80% of our cylinders on our overhauls with great savings to you.

VERY IMPORTANT Your cylinder head is aluminum and the piston barrel is steel. At manufacture, the steelbarrel is threaded and tightly screwed in the head. When removing and installing valve seats and guides, we use a partlow oven that expands the whole cylinder evenly, not disturbing the pinch fit of the barrel to cylinder.

There are shops that use a blowtorch to heat the cylinder heads only. This method can possibly loosen the barrel and cause a catastrophic engine failure. We do not port cylinders. We will remove abnormal casting flaws in necessary. How can porting and polishing be effective when a muffler is installed? These engines are not designed for racing. Safety and durability Is required.

The reason we flow cylinder head ports with valves installed at cam lift is to check the volume flow past the newly ground valve angle and valve seat angle. In 1971 (Formerly Blue Print Aircraft Engines), we would combustion – power – balance the cylinders to smoothen out engine vibration by aligning cylinder installation according to individual compression ratios and firing order.

• We carefully hone cylinders to factory specifications, maintaining “choke” is essential.
